16th May 2007
I would like to introduce the
new leadership team for this year.
As treasurer we have “Grant
Bromley” who has done a huge amount of work for the FVAQ over the last 4 years.
As Secretary we still have
“Scott Andrew” who is doing a great job for someone who hasn’t had a chance to
drive a race for 18 months.
As Vice-President we have
“David Harrison” who like me is getting towards the grey nomad stage of life.
All he wants to do is go racing and have fun with the minimum of politics.
As President we have yours
truly “ Mike Russell”. I have been on the committee for 7 years and have been
racing on and off for most of that time.
The team want to promote the
class as a social event. We want all competitors to have a grin from ear to
ear, to remember that there is no F1 contract at the end of the year. Formula
Vee is just a starting point, and to progress, you will need to show patience,
skill and racecraft, not a trail of bent cars about you.
The most satisfying part of
racing well, apart from have a really good dice with someone, is to improve
your overall times from race meet to race meet. This is as much about learning
to set up your car, including car preparation, as it is about obtaining better
driving skills. To this end we have obtained the services of “Doug Angus” out
technical director who happens to be a 4 time National Champion to give advice
and assistance at race meetings to help you get the best from your car. “Graeme
Clarke” who has been at the pointy end of the field many times in the past will
ably assist him. Don’t hesitate to approach these guys and ask specific
questions if you are not happy with the way your car is working.
We will also be providing a
nominated mentor to assist new competitors at their first few events. They will
help with Scrutineering, entries, garage arrangements, etc.
“Morgan Park” has some new
facilities on the way with the Armco on the main straight, new paved road in
the pit paddock, with power poles and lighting. There will also be more P.A.
Speakers. All good stuff.
We will be arranging a get
together for dinner on Saturday nights similar to the ones organised by “Shane
Hart” in the past. We don’t often get a chance to socialise away from the
track, so make the most of it.
We will be having Club
presentations and CAMS trophy presentations 10 minutes after the last race at
each state round. You won’t need to win races to be up for an award, so
be there! It will be a short affair as we all want to get home at the
end of a weekend.
We welcome back 3 old hands
to the scene in August, with the return of David Bolton, Graeme Clark and Bruce
Acheson. Welcome back guys! Also we understand there is a 1600cc Sabre in
Toowoomba with a mystery owner. If anyone knows who he/she is we would like to
contact him/her and find out if they need assistance to go racing. On the down
side, “Grant Bromley” had a major incident at ‘Phillip Island’s Australian
Formula Vee series’ and was knocked around a fair bit, requiring an overnight
stay in Hospital. I’m glad to say he is on the mend, with no permanent damage
to himself. The same cannot be said for his car though, which may not see the
light of day until next year.
Our website is up and running
again and all Nationals information can be found there.
Also Dunlop tyres are
available from Gary’s Motorsport in Sydney for $1300 delivered to your door.

Last of all, since there
isn’t any racing until August, you might consider a race night on the
simulators at ‘High Octane’. A competition over 3 hours with 16 drivers and
including pizza will cost $35 per driver. Its a chance to beat the guys who are
normally at the front, and the repair bills are nil! Contact Tim Hamilton to
